Tampa Bay Buccaneers Now Worth Over $5 Billion

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seen a significant increase in their franchise valuation, as revealed in Sportico’s latest NFL team rankings.

According to Sportico, the average valuation for an NFL team now stands at $5.14 billion, with the combined fair-market value of the league’s 32 franchises reaching a staggering $165 billion.

This year, the Buccaneers emerged as a standout, climbing 12 spots from No. 28 to No. 16 on the list. The franchise is now valued at an impressive $5.5 billion, marking a 33% jump from its 2023 valuation of $4.15 billion. Key factors contributing to this surge include the appointment of Todd Bowles as head coach, the decision to start Baker Mayfield as quarterback, and a notable playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2023 season, which has driven both on-field success and increased market value.

Within the NFC South division, the Atlanta Falcons hold the highest valuation at $5.9 billion, placing them at No. 13 overall. On the other hand, the New Orleans Saints have the lowest valuation in the division, valued at $4.79 billion, and have dropped three places to No. 30.

Media deals continue to play a crucial role in these valuations. ESPN/ABC’s exclusive rights deal for Monday Night Football, valued at approximately $2.7 billion annually and potentially extending until 2033, remains the largest broadcasting package in the NFL. Following closely is Fox’s deal for Sunday NFC games, valued at around $2.3 billion annually.

Topping the list is the Dallas Cowboys, famously known as “America’s Team.” Despite not securing a Super Bowl win in nearly three decades, their franchise value remains unaffected. Sportico values the Cowboys at a remarkable $10.32 billion, making them the first professional sports team to surpass the $10 billion mark. The Los Angeles Rams hold the second spot with a valuation of $7.79 billion.
