Hillsborough River Turns Emerald Green for St. Patrick’s Day

One of the most exciting moments of the Tampa River O’ Green Festival is watching the Hillsborough River turn green before your eyes! This tradition, hosted by Tampa’s Downtown Partnership in collaboration with the City of Tampa, creates a breathtaking scene along the award-winning Tampa Riverwalk.

While the eco-friendly dye creates a dazzling display, the festival offers live music, thrilling games, and delicious treats from some of the city’s best food trucks.

A Family-Friendly Festival with Irish Flair

The Tampa River O’ Green Festival is designed for all ages, making it the perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your loved ones. From interactive games to lively performances, there’s something for everyone—including your four-legged friends!

Mayor Jane Castor summed it up best: “Seeing our Hillsborough River turn emerald green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day is a great reminder of the excitement and fun that Tampa has to offer.”

Exciting New Additions in 2025

This year, festivalgoers can experience an art walk near Four Green Fields pub, showcasing talented local artists with Irish connections. Other new attractions include:

  • Cabbage Toss Game – Test your aim and luck!
  • Lucky Charms Eating Contest – Can you finish a bowl of marshmallow-packed cereal the fastest?
  • Busch Gardens Ticket Giveaway – A lucky winner will score free passes to one of Florida’s top attractions!

Safe and Eco-Friendly Festivities

Organizers assure that the green dye used in the Hillsborough River is non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally safe. The same FDA-approved dye is used in food, water systems, and even eye surgery to trace blood vessels.

Where to Park for the Event

Attendees can find affordable parking at several locations near Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. The William F. Poe Parking Garage (600 N. Ashley Drive, Tampa, FL 33602) offers convenient access just steps away from the festival.
