Shoppers in Tampa Bay eagerly opened their wallets this holiday season, showcasing a significant uptick in retail activity. According to MasterCard, retail sales were up by about 4% compared to the previous year, indicating a stronger-than-expected spending trend.

A Thriving Season for Local Businesses

Andrea Messina, owner of Joe and Sons Olive Oil in Hyde Park, experienced a robust holiday shopping period. “We’ve actually only got a couple of bottles left. We’re tapped out,” Messina said, reflecting the high demand for her products. Despite challenges earlier this year, including the twin hurricanes Helene and Milton that disrupted businesses and redirected shoppers’ spending to general contractors, Messina noted a late surge in sales.
