Two male victims, one in 9th grade and the other in 11th grade, have been identified. Remarkably, one of the students has already been discharged from the hospital on Thursday evening, according to the police.

Clearwater Chief Eric Gandy has identified the suspect as a 9th-grade boy who has never faced disciplinary action in school. Police have charged him with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

“Parts of the school are crime scenes, and students are being held in their classes to preserve those scenes,” a Clearwater police spokesman said.

Immediate notification was sent to parents after the victims were identified.

A parent at CHS, Jonathan Barraza, received a distressing call from his daughter who witnessed a stabbing at school.

“She said she was walking from one class to go to the next, as she was walking, she heard the altercation and once they started, they pulled out a knife,” Barraza said.

Parents flocked to the school in a hurry to uncover the situation.

“It’s scary, it’s really scary because you don’t know sometimes your child goes out and you don’t know if they’ll come back in,” said Clementine Miles, another CHS parent.

Superintendent Kevin Hendrick and Chief Gandy report a stabbing incident in the school’s main concourse during the first lunch period.

Officers are diligently determining the proper charges.

Authorities will continue to investigate and gather evidence at the scene for several more hours, ensuring a thorough examination of the situation.

Officers promptly and efficiently helped with the dismissal process on Thursday afternoon at 1:45. Students are now safely back in the care of their parents and loved ones.

“A key piece of any response like this is a unified command, we had that very quickly in this instance,” Chief Gandy said.

School resumes on Friday as usual.
