Uber Rolls Out Teen Accounts in Tampa, Catering to On-the-Go Families

Uber has unveiled a novel offering designed for families in Tampa, enabling parents to extend invitations to their teenagers for the creation of a specialized Uber account. This initiative empowers teens to independently request rides and food deliveries, all under the watchful eye of their parents, backed by an array of enhanced safety measures.

To establish a teen’s account, parents initiate an invitation, prompting their teenagers to embark on a mandatory onboarding process. Uber’s commitment to safety is underscored by the incorporation of several protective features, including real-time trip and delivery tracking, PIN verification, RideCheck, audio recording, expanded communication options, and access to Uber’s Safety Line.

Furthermore, the teen-friendly version of Uber Eats is on offer, equipped with item filtering to restrict purchases of items unsuitable for their age and affording parents visibility into every item ordered by their teens.

“Teen accounts are built with transparency in mind so that there are no surprises for parents, teens, or drivers,” Mariana Esteves, Product Manager at Uber said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to offer this innovative feature to families in more cities across the US, with key safety features built into the heart of the experience … We’re committed to helping keep teens safe and getting families moving.”

This expansion is now accessible in 250 cities across 49 states. Originally introduced in Canada in 2022, it has made its way to the southern state by early 2023.

Beginning this Friday, Uber will be reaching out to Tampa residents via email to introduce them to this fresh program.

To mark the launch, Uber is rolling out a special promotion, granting a 40% discount on teen rides for their initial three trips within the first month of signing up. This offer is valid from September 8th to January 14th and expires within 30 days of registration.
