The Big Return: River O’ Green Festival in Tampa Set for March

The River O’Green Festival, an annual event in Tampa, is set to make a return to Curtis Hixon Park on Saturday, March 16, running from 11 am to 6 pm. This vibrant St. Patrick’s Day celebration involves the spectacular transformation of the Hillsborough River into a brilliant emerald green. Presented by Tampa’s Downtown Partnership in collaboration with the City of Tampa, the festival unfolds along the acclaimed Riverwalk.

Amidst the picturesque setting of the Hillsborough River, attendees can enjoy a lively atmosphere with live entertainment, games, kids’ activities, a variety of food trucks, and, of course, a selection of refreshing beers.

Hillsborough River turns green this March

The River O’Green Festival offers enjoyment for all ages, making it a family-friendly event where even your furry companions are encouraged to join in on the fun.

“Seeing our Hillsborough River turn emerald green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day is a great reminder of the excitement and fun that Tampa has to offer,” added Mayor Jane Castor ahead of the 2023 event. “I know how much I look forward to this annual tradition and the opportunity it brings to come together and celebrate all that makes our city great.”

Organizers assure that the dye utilized at the River O’Green Festival is environmentally safe, non-toxic, biodegradable, and complies with all EPA standards. It is also certified for use by NSF Std 60. Interestingly, it shares the same composition as the dye frequently employed in water systems to trace the flow of drinking water and is identical to the dye used in food and eye surgery to trace blood vessels.

Ample parking is available at various locations adjacent to the event, with the William F. Poe Parking Garage north of Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park (600 N. Ashley Drive, Tampa, FL 33602) offering parking at a nominal rate.
