Waymo Begins Public Driverless Rides Across Tampa This Week!

A Waymo autonomous vehicle represents Tampa's newest transportation option as the company begins welcoming public riders across its local service area.

Waymo driverless rides are officially reaching Tampa residents this week, giving locals a new way to travel around the city without a human driver behind the wheel. Waymo began welcoming its first public riders in Tampa on September 1, 2026, as the autonomous transportation company expands its robotaxi service into more U.S. cities.

The launch makes Tampa one of three new markets receiving fully autonomous rides alongside Denver and San Diego. With the latest expansion, Waymo says it is now providing public autonomous trips across 14 U.S. cities, marking another major step in the company’s nationwide rollout.
