Tampa International Airport (TPA) is set to expand with a state-of-the-art Airside D, and Delta Air Lines Tampa has secured its position as the anchor tenant for this $1.5 billion project. The Hillsborough County Aviation Board of Directors officially approved Delta’s selection, solidifying its commitment to serving travelers with enhanced domestic and international routes.
A Major Milestone for Tampa International Airport
The new Airside D terminal, expected to open in 2028, marks TPA’s first airside expansion in nearly 20 years. The facility will feature 16 gates, catering to both international and domestic flights. As part of the agreement, Delta Air Lines will operate at least six gates and manage one of the two premium lounges, ensuring an upgraded travel experience for its passengers.
A Strong Partnership Between TPA and Delta
According to TPA CEO Joe Lopano, Delta has been a key airline partner at the airport for decades. He praised the airline’s commitment, stating,
“This agreement will bring a world-class airline to what will be a world-class facility for our international and domestic routes.”
With this collaboration, TPA aims to maintain high standards in customer service, flight efficiency, and premium amenities.
Delta’s Presence at TPA: A Legacy of Excellence
Delta Air Lines has a long-standing history at Tampa International Airport, operating in the region for over 65 years. Currently, the airline manages six gates and a Delta Sky Club in Airside E. With an extensive network, Delta serves 13 destinations from TPA, averaging 36 departures per day in 2024.
Over the past 10 years, Delta and its partners have transported nearly 33 million domestic passengers and over 1 million international travelers, reinforcing its status as one of the largest and longest-operating carriers at TPA.
What This Means for Travelers
The introduction of Airside D and Delta’s expanded presence will lead to more flight options, better amenities, and a seamless travel experience for passengers. As Tampa Bay continues to grow as a travel hub, this partnership ensures that air travelers will benefit from cutting-edge facilities and world-class service.
