Massive Roof Damage at Tropicana Field After Hurricane Milton Hits Tampa

Strong winds from Hurricane Milton wreaked havoc on the roof of Tropicana Field, home to the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball, on Wednesday night. Video footage captured the devastation, showing pieces of the translucent, Teflon-coated fiberglass roof flapping violently in the wind. Within moments, social media clips revealed large sections of the roof were completely missing, emphasizing the storm’s severity.

Earlier this week, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Tropicana Field would be converted into a 10,000-person base camp “to support ongoing debris operations and post-landfall responders.” This decision highlights the urgent need for effective disaster response in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, which made landfall near Sarasota, impacting a wide area of Florida.
