The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that their home opener will take place a day later than originally scheduled. MLB has moved the game at George M. Steinbrenner Field from Thursday, March 27, to Friday, March 28, allowing additional time to prepare the ballpark for the big day.
Steinbrenner Field, typically the spring training home for the New York Yankees, will serve as the temporary venue for the Rays’ 2025 regular season home games. This change comes in response to hurricane damage at Tropicana Field, making Steinbrenner Field the Rays’ home base for the year.
In just 63 days, pitchers and catchers will report to Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte to kick off spring training. Later, they’ll move to Steinbrenner Field to finish spring preparation once the Yankees return north for their opening day.
According to Tampa Bay Rays Communications, the Yankees will continue hosting their spring training games at Steinbrenner Field during the 2025 season, even as the Rays make it their home.
