A 17-year-old Tampa boy tragically lost his life in a crash on US-41 in Pasco County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred Thursday night at 10:56 p.m. when the teen and his 16-year-old female passenger were traveling southbound on the highway. A vehicle in the northbound lane, identified as a Honda Civic driven by a 45-year-old Spring Hill man, crossed into their lane while attempting to pass traffic.

In an effort to avoid a collision, the teenager swerved onto the shoulder. Unfortunately, this action led to the car striking a concrete culvert, causing it to flip multiple times. The impact ejected the young driver from his seat, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old passenger survived the accident but sustained serious injuries, according to troopers. She was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment as authorities continue their investigation.
