Tampa Theatre, a cherished historic gem, has captivated audiences for over three decades with its iconic Sunday series showcasing Holiday and Summer Classics. Building on the momentum of new additions like Family Favorites, Black Love, and September Sing-Along Sundays, the Theatre is ready to elevate its programming with an innovative new offering for 2025.

Introducing the “Big Picture” Series

With the addition of the state-of-the-art Taylor Screening Room, Tampa Theatre is launching the Big Picture series. This midweek cinematic experience will take place on select Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m., featuring curated films exploring unique themes, directors, or genres each month.

“Big Picture will let us dive deeper into what makes these films special,” explains James DeFord, Film Program Manager for Tampa Theatre. “We aim to spark conversations and uncover surprising connections between movies. For instance, you might think you know Casablanca, but pairing it with To Have and Have Not or Who Framed Roger Rabbit? might reveal entirely new layers.”

January: “Welcome to the Show”

Kicking off in January, the series will embrace Tampa Theatre’s mission to entertain, educate, and enlighten. The “Welcome to the Show” theme promises a memorable lineup of classics and cinematic gems:

  • The Last Picture Show – Jan. 8, 8 p.m. (1971 / R)
  • Singin’ in the Rain – Jan. 15, 8 p.m. (1952 / G)
  • Ed Wood – Jan. 22, 8 p.m. (1994 / R)
  • Cinema Paradiso – Jan. 29, 8 p.m. (1988 / PG)

February and Beyond

February’s theme, Love On The Rocks, delves into the intricacies of romance, while March will showcase cinematic masterpieces celebrated by Sight and Sound magazine.

“We want to introduce audiences to new films that could become their favorites,” DeFord shares. “At the same time, we aim to offer fresh insights into beloved classics. It’s about zooming in to appreciate the details and zooming out to grasp the bigger picture.”

Tickets and Information

Tickets for the Big Picture series are affordably priced at $10, or $7 for Theatre Members ($14.50/$11.50 for silent films). January tickets are already on sale at the Franklin Street Box Office or online at tampatheatre.org.
