Tampa police are enhancing security for the Gasparilla Children’s Parade and the Parade of Pirates on January 25. Using advanced tactics, including an aviation unit and helicopters, law enforcement aims to keep attendees safe during these large-scale events.

Heightened Security Following Recent Incidents

In light of a recent terror attack in New Orleans, the Tampa Police Department is revising its security strategies. Major Jason Dillaha, head of parade security, stated, “If we need to adjust the plan, we will look at the specifics of whatever is happening.” The department continuously reviews global incidents to enhance its safety protocols.

Aviation Unit Ensures Safety from Above

The department will rely on its aviation unit to monitor the event from the sky. Helicopters will serve as “eyes in the sky,” identifying potential risks such as unauthorized individuals in restricted areas. Chief Pilot Chris Shepherd explained, “We’re checking locations, making sure someone shouldn’t be on a rooftop or in a restricted area.”

No Known Threat to Gasparilla Parade

The FBI revealed that the individual behind the New Orleans attack visited Tampa last year, but officials have found no credible threat linked to Gasparilla. “We are not aware of any credible known threat to Gasparilla,” said Dillaha. Local, state, and federal agencies are collaborating to ensure a secure environment for the parade.

The Tampa Police Department’s proactive measures, including aerial surveillance and collaboration with federal agencies, underline their commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. WFLA initially published the story.

Join the Gasparilla celebration with peace of mind, as Tampa police take extraordinary steps to keep you and your family safe during these iconic parades.
