Launching a Nepalese restaurant in a market unfamiliar with the cuisine wasn’t easy. From navigating permits to educating customers, the journey was challenging—but rewarding.

“One major opportunity was the curiosity and openness of Tampa Bay’s diverse food scene,” she adds. “And our offering of Halal meat attracted a broader community.”

The name “Gorkhali” itself is steeped in Nepalese history.

“‘Gorkhali’ refers to the brave people from the Gorkha region of Nepal,” explains co-founder Reena Lama. “It symbolizes pride, resilience, and authenticity—all qualities that reflect our food and our values.”

Everything—from the name to the napkins—was chosen with care. The decor is adorned with Nepalese textiles, and the atmosphere transports you from suburban Tampa to a Himalayan home.
