Across the nation, families spent time in airports waiting to reunite with loved ones on Christmas Day and the first night of Hannukah. Tampa International Airport became a hub of emotions, as several families experienced joyous reunions.

The Whitener Family’s Festive Arrival

Among the crowd was the Whitener family, eagerly waiting for their daughter flying in from California. Adding a touch of fun, Tod Whitener dressed as Santa Claus, while his wife donned a snowman costume, accompanied by grandma.

“She’s going to be really excited, really embarrassed, or a little bit of both,” Whitener joked.

When their daughter finally arrived, she laughed, a bit embarrassed yet visibly thrilled to see her family. This memorable reunion was the perfect way for the Whitener family to celebrate Christmas before she returned out west next week.

A Hero’s Welcome for the Flores Family

Nearby, the Flores family eagerly awaited their son, who was arriving from Europe. This holiday was particularly special for Paul Flores, as his son, an army soldier, was returning home from Germany after nine long months.

“It’s our son. He’s coming home from Germany. He’s in the army,” Paul Flores said proudly.

Armed with handmade signs—a last-minute idea to make the moment extra special—the family waited with anticipation. “We really don’t do stuff like that, but we thought it’ll be special for him to see something different,” Paul shared.

Embracing the Moment

When PFC Paul Flores finally stepped off the plane, the family rushed to greet him with hugs and tears. “Excited. Happy. Just tears,” Paul Flores described the emotional reunion. The family plans to spend the time together doing whatever the soldier desires, from enjoying iced coffees to unwrapping gifts left under the Christmas tree.
