The U.S. Air Force, through its innovation division AFWERX, has awarded Genesis Systems a $1.25 million contract to develop advanced filtration systems designed to safeguard potable water supplies from contamination in challenging environments. This contract aims to enhance the reliability of water sources under extreme conditions, reflecting a commitment to innovative solutions for military needs.
Genesis Systems, a pioneer in renewable water technology, secured the contract to develop chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) filtration technologies. These cutting-edge technologies will be integrated with their atmospheric water generation (AWG) and renewable water-from-air (RWA) systems, which extract water from ambient air. These systems are already utilized by various branches of the military to meet their critical water supply needs.
In 2021, Genesis Systems relocated its headquarters to Tampa, aligning with other advanced manufacturing operations in the area, reinforcing its mission to solve the global water scarcity crisis. “This project is focused on creating filtration systems that will ensure water purity in environments where contamination risks are high,” said David Stuckenberg, co-founder, president, and COO of Genesis Systems. “The aim is to enhance the safety and reliability of water supplies in diverse and potentially hazardous conditions.”
The Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines have all recognized the effectiveness of AWG and RWA systems in generating water efficiently under various conditions. However, these systems “must be operational” even when exposed to CBRN threats and environmental pollutants, such as those from open burn pits. The new filtration technology aims to address these limitations by protecting against contaminants that can affect water quality.
The advancement is expected to significantly reduce the need for frequent water resupplies and improve overall operational readiness and safety for military personnel. This spring, the Air Force awarded the startup a phase two $1.2 million contract for its innovative technology that creates water, demonstrating ongoing efforts to enhance military logistics and safety through advanced technology solutions.
