Teenage Girl Injured in Tampa New Year’s Day Shooting

A 16-year-old girl was shot early on New Year’s Day in Tampa. The shooting happened shortly after 1 a.m. near North Tampa Street and East Cass Street. Police on patrol during their New Year’s Eve Operation found the victim and took immediate action.

Details of the Shooting

The girl was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors reported her injuries as non-life-threatening. Police said the shooting occurred during an altercation between a small group and a larger group of juveniles.

Separate from Curtis Hixon Park Incident

Officials confirmed that this shooting was not connected to another incident at Curtis Hixon Park. In that case, a security guard was shot and injured earlier in the evening.
