St. Petersburg's Free Museum Day: Explore Four Museums at No Cost this Saturday!

Dive into the world of culture during Arts Alive! Free Museum Day.

Arts Alive Free Museum Day, an annual event that previously coincided with Smithsonian Magazine’s Free Museum Day, is arriving in St. Petersburg this weekend. The event is organized by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance in collaboration with the City of St. Petersburg and local participating organizations. The Smithsonian’s Free Museum Day has been put on hold.

Arts Alive Free Museum Day is scheduled for September 23. However, be prepared for a bustling visit to the local participating museums. Some museums have specific entry criteria, and it’s strongly recommended to reserve tickets in advance due to the expected high attendance.

Here is a list of the participating museums:

  1. The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg will grant free admission to Pinellas County residents with a valid ID. You can find it at 355 Beach Drive NE. For inquiries, contact 727-896-2667 or visit mfastpete.org.
  2. The Dalí Museum extends free admission to Pinellas County residents with ID. Please note that this excludes the “Dalí Alive 360°” experience, which is available for purchase at $15. Online reservations are highly recommended, and guests should present their pre-reserved ticket and ID upon arrival. Limited walk-up tickets may be available. The museum is located at 1 Dalí Blvd. (Bayshore Drive and Fifth Avenue SE). Reach them at 727-823-3767 or visit thedali.org.
  3. The James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art advises reserving your time slot in advance when registration opens. Limited walk-up tickets may be available at the door for residents of any county, but it does not guarantee entry without a reservation. The museum can be found at 150 Central Ave. For inquiries, call 727-892-4200 or visit thejamesmuseum.org.
  4. Imagine Museum requires timed tickets, which are also available for residents of any county. Commemorative items will be on sale in the gift shop. You can visit them at 1901 Central Ave. For more information, contact 727-300-1700 or visit imaginemuseum.com.

Where should I park during Free Museum Day?

You can find parking in any of the downtown garages, and rates may differ. To streamline your parking experience, utilize the ParkMobile app or visit the official City of St. Petersburg website at stpete.org.

For convenient museum-hopping, you may also want to explore alternative transportation options such as the SunRunner, St. Petersburg Trolley Downtown Looper, or the Central Avenue Trolley. Detailed information on routes and schedules is available at psta.net.
