TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Late Friday night into early Saturday morning, law enforcement officials took action to stop a planned street takeover in Tampa. Following tips about the event, investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Tampa Police Department swiftly mobilized to address the issue.

Law Enforcement Responds to Multiple Locations

Police and FHP troopers responded to several key intersections where people were reportedly gathering to race and perform “dangerous” stunts. These locations included Busch Boulevard and Florida Avenue, Fletcher Avenue and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, as well as a section of Temple Terrace Highway near Winn Dixie. Authorities noted that large groups had already assembled in these areas by the time officers arrived.

Officers Prevent Street Events from Taking Place

At both the Temple Terrace and Busch Boulevard locations, officers were able to prevent any illegal activities from taking place. However, at Fletcher Avenue and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, the street takeover had already begun. In response, troopers engaged in several brief pursuits, leading to 10 arrests. Among those detained, four drivers face felony charges, while six passengers were charged with street racing and takeover.

Police Impound Vehicles and Recover Firearms

As part of the operation, authorities impounded four vehicles, placing 30-day holds on each, and recovered two firearms. Law enforcement highlighted the success of the operation, crediting the interception of information that allowed them to prevent potential dangerous situations for the community.

Reporting Street Racing and Roadway Takeovers

Officials encourage anyone who encounters street racing, stunt driving, or roadway takeovers to safely pull over and report the incident by calling *FHP or 911. Those with information about planned events can contact authorities via email at StopRacing@flhsmv.gov, providing any screenshots or documentation that may assist in preventing future incidents.
