Hillsborough County schools are grappling with a recent cybersecurity breach that has impacted the information of more than 250 students
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – In a recent update, Hillsborough County Public Schools provided details regarding a cybersecurity incident that occurred earlier in September, exposing the information of more than 250 students.
According to school authorities, a thorough forensic examination revealed that an administrative file from the 2021-2022 school year, containing data on 254 students, was accessed without proper authorization.
The compromised information may have included students’ names, dates of birth, district student IDs, and State IDs, which could potentially correspond to their social security numbers. Additionally, school nurse visit records from that year may have been affected.
District officials have confirmed that they promptly communicated this information to parents. They have also taken the initiative to offer affected students complimentary identity protection services for a duration of one year.
