Police state that a Brandon resident fired shots outside a nightclub in Ybor City
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a man was apprehended following gunfire in Ybor City.
Tampa Police Department (TPD) reported that officers responded to a disturbance at Tangra Nightclub shortly before 2 a.m.
Gunshots were discharged into the air outside the club on 7th Avenue, as reported by TPD.
Octavius J. Dunbar, 26, was arrested in connection to the incident, though the specific charges he faces remain unclear. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported.
The occurrence on Wednesday unfolded shortly after the City of Tampa Community Engagement & Partnerships team conducted a panel discussion addressing a proposed curfew for children. This measure aims to mitigate youth gun violence in the entertainment district and was prompted by the mass shooting on October 29, 2023, where teenagers were both suspects and victims.
The Tampa City Council is anticipated to conduct a second public hearing on the ordinance during its meeting on January 25.
