Smart Ways to Navigate Tampa Bay While Saving Gas
Tired of Constantly Refilling Your Tank? Discover How to Enjoy Tampa Bay with Less Gas
Are you weary of filling up your tank every few days? If so, we have some great strategies to help you cut down on your gas usage while still enjoying everything the vibrant Tampa Bay area has to offer.
In celebration of World Car Free Day on Sunday, Sept. 22, here are several ways to navigate the region without burning gas at all—or at least using significantly less.
Both Tampa and St. Pete provide excellent public transit options. The TECO Line Streetcar connects downtown Tampa with Ybor City, running entirely on electricity and free to ride. On the other side of the Bay, the SunRunner offers a comfortable transport solution between downtown St. Pete and St. Pete Beach. SunRunner vehicles are hybrid-electric, with fares starting at just $1.10 per ride. Another option in Tampa is DASH, featuring all-electric, bright yellow Tesla vehicles that provide rideshare services for just $2 per person, accessible through an easy-to-use app.
For those who want to combine eco-friendly travel with some exercise, St. Pete’s collaboration with Lime allows for public e-bike rentals. The City of Tampa has also established similar partnerships, providing rules and guidance for biking throughout the area.
The Tampa Bay region boasts numerous walkable neighborhoods, not limited to the bustling downtowns. If you’re looking to drive, park, and stretch your legs, consider these suggestions.
In Hillsborough County, explore Ybor City, Hyde Park Village, Water Street Tampa, the Channel District, or Midtown Tampa. You can also anticipate the addition of Gasworx to this list soon. In Pinellas County, Gulfport, Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Clearwater Beach, and Historic Old Northeast all offer great options for a leisurely stroll. For future adventures, the Historic Gas Plant District is expected to be walkable as well.
