Tampa Firefighter Faces Allegations of Soliciting a Minor and Sending Explicit Material

A Tampa Fire Rescue firefighter was arrested on Thursday morning on charges linked to the alleged solicitation of a child. The arrest follows an investigation conducted by the Stuart Police Department in Martin County.

Investigation Leads to Arrest in Tampa

Authorities began investigating Austin Lanyon after receiving a tip regarding his alleged activities. After gathering evidence, a warrant was issued, leading to his arrest in Tampa on Thursday.

Lanyon is facing the following charges:

  • Transmission of harmful material to a minor by electronic equipment
  • Lewd solicitation of a child
  • Unlawful use of a two-way communications device

Firefighter Suspended Amid Investigation

Employed by Tampa Fire Rescue since 2022, Lanyon has been suspended pending the investigation. Fire Chief Barbara Tripp addressed the incident, emphasizing the department’s commitment to high standards:

“This conduct is a violation of the values we uphold as firefighters,” Tripp stated. “Firefighters are sworn to help our community, yet in this case, this individual allegedly acted in direct contradiction to that oath. We hold our firefighters to the highest standards of integrity, and when one falls short of those expectations, it is our duty to ensure they are held accountable for their actions.”

Officials have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding Lanyon’s charges. The case remains under investigation, with more updates expected.
