Christmas arrived a bit early for some lucky children in the Tampa community, as more than 100 brand-new bicycles were gifted on Friday. Thanks to the combined efforts of OnBikes and the city’s mayor, this heartwarming gesture brought smiles to many young faces.

A Holiday Giveaway on Wheels

With a festive float and semi-trucks packed with bicycles, the OnBikes staff and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor delivered joy to three neighbourhoods. This holiday surprise was part of a giveaway that brightened the lives of dozens of children.

Six-year-old Faith Williams, who was thrilled to receive her first red bike, shared, “It makes me feel good. What’s special is I don’t have a red bike.”

Community Centers and Generosity

Through local community centres, OnBikes distributed 120 bicycles, making this initiative a symbol of hope and happiness. “Just seeing the joy on the kids’ faces, it’s just so wonderful,” said Mayor Castor. For many, these bikes marked their first-ever bicycle experience, creating unforgettable memories.

Joy Across All Ages

From six-year-olds like Faith to teenagers, kids of all ages got a chance to enjoy their new bikes. Parents like Thaddeus Williams, Faith’s father, expressed gratitude, saying, “It brings joy to my heart for somebody to give. We really appreciate everything, especially the mayor, for hosting this.”

Six Years of Impact

For Julian Tobin, co-founder of OnBikes, this annual tradition has evolved beyond just delivering gifts. “When we started, it was all about what’s under the tree. Now, it’s about making an impact,” Tobin explained.

He recalled a powerful story of how one bike recipient used her gift to attend after-school programs, improving her grades and securing a brighter future.

Spreading Freedom and Joy

For children, these bicycles symbolize more than holiday cheer; they represent freedom and independence. OnBikes is proud to see how the community rallies behind their cause every year, creating a lasting effect on young lives during the festive season.
