Florida’s minimum wage is scheduled to rise this month

Florida’s minimum wage will reach $12 per hour on September 30, marking a step towards the state’s eventual $15 minimum wage.

In 2020, voters approved a constitutional amendment for this wage increase, which was championed by prominent Orlando attorney John Morgan.

The minimum wage previously increased to $10 an hour on September 30, 2021, and then to $11 on September 30, 2022. It is mandated to rise by $1 each year until it reaches $15 an hour on September 30, 2026, after which it will be adjusted for inflation.

Additionally, the minimum wage for tipped employees will rise to $8.98 an hour this year, thanks to employers being able to use a “tip credit” of $3.02, as outlined on the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association’s website.

For comparison, the federal minimum wage stands at $7.25 per hour.
