Tampa Bay is a top pick for those considering relocation

For the second consecutive year, the Southern United States is attracting new residents from all over the nation, and recent data indicates that Tampa Bay remains a highly sought-after destination.

According to Redfin data, Florida boasts five of the top 10 areas in the country that people are relocating to, with over 27,000 individuals actively searching for a move into the state rather than out of it.

Sarasota secured the 5th position as a preferred destination for those relocating to the Sunshine State, experiencing a net inflow of 3,700 individuals, while Tampa claimed the 7th spot with 3,400 people seeking to make the area their new home in just a three-month period.

Notably, New York homebuyers displayed the most interest in moving to Sarasota, followed by Chicago and Boston.

A similar trend emerged in Tampa between July and September, with 1,364 New York homebuyers actively searching for housing in the Tampa area.

Orlando and Miami also found spots on the list, ranking 3rd and 9th, respectively.

In 2022, Florida led the nation in net domestic migration gains, with a total of 318,855 individuals relocating to the state, as reported by the National Association of Realtors. Furthermore, Florida held the distinction of being the fastest-growing state in the previous year, experiencing a 1.9% annual population increase, marking the first time since 1957 that Florida’s population growth outpaced that of any other state in the country.

Recently, the U.S. Census Bureau released data on net domestic migration, illustrating the flow of people in and out of each state in 2022. Twenty-six states experienced a net influx of people, with more individuals moving in than out, while twenty-five states recorded a loss of residents.

Florida (318,855), Texas (230,961), and the Carolinas – North Carolina (99,796) and South Carolina (84,030) – secured the top positions for net domestic migration gains in 2022. Positive net domestic and international migration played a significant role in propelling population growth in these regions.
