Tampa Ranks Among Top 3 Best Cities for Recreation in America, Says WalletHub

July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and WalletHub has unveiled its report on the Best & Worst Cities for Recreation in 2024, placing Tampa third in the nation.

WalletHub analyzed the 100 largest U.S. cities across 47 key indicators of recreation-friendliness, examining the availability and cost of recreational activities, park quality, and weather.

Recreation in Tampa (1=Best; 50=Avg.):

  • Overall Rank: 3rd
  • 48th – Spending on Parks and Recreation per Capita
  • 29th – Bike Rental Facilities per Capita
  • 51st – Music Venues per Capita
  • 7th – Number of Coffee & Tea Shops per Capita
  • 27th – Swimming Pools per Capita

Tampa offers an array of free recreation activities. The Tampa Downtown Partnership hosts various free classes at parks throughout the city. Check their events list for a comprehensive guide to community workouts. Enjoy waterfront activities such as Urban Kai by Armature Works and Riverwalk Boating Co by the Tampa Convention Center. Tampa is also home to numerous run clubs.

Our vibrant, sunny city is also the eighth-best place for hockey fans in the U.S., according to WalletHub. Additionally, Tampa boasts the 13th-most restaurants per capita overall. For affordable restaurants with at least 4.5 stars, Tampa ranks among the top cities. The city also hosts numerous food festivals and ice cream shops.
