Upcoming Public Meetings
- Mark your calendars for Friday, Sept. 13, when the City Council Citizens Advisory Budget And Finance Committee convenes from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Sister Cities Room at Old City Hall. Public participation is encouraged, with attendees welcome to sign up for comment.
- Another crucial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5:01 p.m. at Old City Hall, with an online streaming option available. Remember to submit your request for public comment before attending.
Budget Highlights: Where the Money Goes
Let’s delve into the proposed budget’s highlights. This year’s financial blueprint includes some significant allocations:
Capital Improvements
A substantial investment of $405.7 million is earmarked for capital improvement projects citywide, ranging from historic building renovations to new field lighting installations.
Neighborhood and Community Affairs
Approximately $17.2 million is proposed for Neighborhood and Community Affairs, ensuring your local community thrives.
Stormwater Management
The city plans to fortify its defenses against nature’s whims with a $7.3 million investment in the Stormwater capital improvement program. This includes:
- $3.8 million for the South Howard Flood Relief and Streetscape Project
- $1.5 million for the Citywide Watershed Master Plan
Parking Improvements
Parking woes may soon be a thing of the past, with $49 million allocated to the city’s Parking Division. Of this, about $9.8 million is earmarked for improvements and upgrades. Say goodbye to those pesky potholes!
