Tampa Bay tech hub status continues to shine as a recent study places the region among the 2024’s top 20 southern metro areas in the United States. Highlighting factors such as technology job density and median earnings, this new analysis underscores Tampa Bay’s expanding influence within Florida’s burgeoning tech scene.

Florida’s Tech Rankings
Tampa Bay proudly secured the No. 18 position on the list, a testament to the region’s continued rise in the tech sphere. Four other Florida cities joined Tampa Bay in the top 20: Palm Bay (No. 15), Crestview (No. 17), Jacksonville (No. 19), and Orlando (No. 20). These placements reflect a collective surge in Florida’s tech ecosystem, demonstrating the state’s commitment to innovation and talent development.

Business Growth and Cybersecurity
According to the report, Tampa Bay stands fourth for business growth and eighth for its tech earnings increase, with tech employment up by 24% since 2019. Median tech earnings in the region are now at $92,903 — a figure that mirrors the area’s flourishing opportunities.
“Tampa Bay has become a cybersecurity hot spot, led by firms like ReliaQuest, while programs such as Tampa Bay Wave — which recently surpassed $1 billion in capital funding — have helped foster startups,” the report wrote.
Leading Southern Metros
Washington, D.C., claimed the No. 1 spot, with Austin, Texas, close behind, boasting a 25% jump in tech company density from 2019 to 2023. Meanwhile, Wilmington, North Carolina, showed the highest percentage growth in tech establishments among Southern metros at 30% over the past five years, catapulting it from No. 69 to No. 13.
