Pro Women’s Soccer Team in Tampa Bay Aims to Construct Practice Facility in Ybor City
CLTampa reported that the proposals presented to the Barrio Latino Commission do not encompass a stadium in their plans.
The yet-to-be-named professional women’s soccer team in Tampa Bay has secured a location for their activities.
Proposals presented to the Barrio Latino Commission (BLC) in Ybor City reveal plans for the “Ybor Soccer Training Field” situated at the intersection of E 7th and Nebraska Avenues.
A representative from Tampa Bay’s Super League Team confirmed to Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that they are establishing initial presence in this historic district. The team is preparing to unveil its official name and the temporary stadium location in the near future.
The practice field blueprints exclude a stadium but entail the removal of a single nonhazardous large tree, as indicated in an application submitted to the BLC. The land is under the ownership of Seventh and Nebraska Investments LLC, a company connected to Ybor City developer and former Tampa Bay Times investor, Darryl Shaw.
“We love this area and with the players training here, we know they will grow to love it too,” Amber Brinkley, Head Of Marketing And Communications for Super League Tampa Bay, added. “We look forward to becoming part of the Tampa Bay sports community.”
RBLR Sports was the first to report on the team’s development back in May. Notably, the team’s formation is being spearheaded by Darryl Shaw, with David Laxer, the owner of Bern’s Steak House, and Jeff Fox, who recently retired from the position of Chief Information Officer at BluePearl, also involved.
Shaw has expressed his intent to construct a 5,000-seat stadium for the team. The team’s head coach will be Denise Schilte-Brown, the current Head Coach of the University of South Florida’s women’s side, which has made eight appearances in the NCAA tournament under her leadership.
The Bulls will have one more season under Schilte-Brown’s guidance before she takes the helm of the Super League team, expected to commence play in August 2024.
