Tampa Named the Top Retirement Destination of 2023 by WalletHub

A recent WalletHub study has crowned Tampa as the premier retirement destination for 2023. This comprehensive analysis assessed over 180 cities, evaluating them on 45 diverse metrics, including adjusted cost of living, taxpayer friendliness, recreational opportunities, safety statistics, air and water quality, and healthcare accessibility.

Tampa secured notable rankings in key categories:

  • 40th for affordability
  • 5th for recreational activities
  • 26th for overall quality of life
  • 79th for healthcare quality

Florida’s status as a retirement haven remains unshaken, with four of the top five retirement destinations located in the Sunshine State. St. Petersburg also made a strong showing as the 12th best city to retire in.

While optimism about retirement finances is a mixed bag, with 64% of workers feeling at least somewhat confident about their retirement, only 27% are “very confident,” as per the Employee Benefit Research Institute’s 2023 Retirement Confidence Survey.
