TAMPA, Fla. — Frequent users of Florida’s toll roads should brace for increased costs this year, following the expiration of the state’s toll relief credit program.
The toll relief credit, which concluded on Monday, used to offer SunPass or E-PASS users a 50% refund as a credit to their accounts if they had more than 35 monthly transactions on toll roads.
From January to November, an average of 1.2 million drivers per month collectively saved $385 million on tolls, as reported by the Florida Department of Transportation.
News Channel 8 has contacted Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office to inquire about the possibility of reinstating the credit for 2024 but has not received a response yet.
The toll relief credit was established during a special session in December 2022.
The upcoming Florida legislative session kicks off on Tuesday.
