Mad Dogs & Englishmen, the hidden gem on MacDill, is embarking on an exciting new chapter. This beloved South Tampa pub will soon relocate to 4914 S. MacDill Avenue, less than a mile from its original spot. With over 30 years of history, this move promises a refreshed space with a cozy atmosphere, a gastro-pub-inspired menu, and more community events than ever.

A Legacy of Community and Flavor

Since its founding in 1991 by Wilton Morley and Rick “The Colonel” Craig, Mad Dogs & Englishmen has been more than just a pub. Known as a staple of Tampa’s dining scene, it has offered live music, great pints, and classic British dishes like Fish ‘N Chips and Shepherd’s Pie. The pub’s unique charm is rooted in Morley’s wit, storytelling, and a welcoming space for the community.

A Partnership to Build the Future

In 2022, Mad Dogs partnered with Blake Casper and Alison Casper Adams, owners of Oxford Commons, to reimagine the pub. Their shared vision aims to preserve the soul of the original location while expanding to a thoughtfully designed 6,000-square-foot space. The new location will feature multiple dining areas, two bars, a dog-friendly patio, and unique spots like a cozy fireplace lounge and a “Moroccan Room.”

A Fresh Take on British Hospitality

While Mad Dogs will keep its iconic dishes, the menu will expand under Chef Jeff Clark’s guidance. Expect creative additions like Stuffed Peppadews, Aubergine Bolognese, and Tuna Tartare. The new menu will also include weekend brunch and traditional tea service. Enhanced by a larger space, Mad Dogs will host community-focused events such as Trivia Tuesdays, a book club, and Sunday roasts, offering something for everyone.

Honoring Tradition, Embracing Change

“This project is significant because of my connection to the restaurant,” said Blake Casper. “We’ve carefully preserved the heart of Mad Dogs while adding new touches that honor its history. The design choices reflect tradition, comfort, and hospitality, ensuring the new space feels like home for loyal patrons and new visitors alike.”
