Have you ever walked past a local landmark and thought, “This place deserves to be remembered!” Our city brims with legendary locations, yet many significant spots aren’t marked. While some are recognized with historical markers—like The University of Tampa or the historic Jackson House—there are countless hidden gems that go unnoticed. Think of places like Wright’s Gourmet House, where generations have celebrated with cakes for birthdays, weddings, or “just because,” or that memorable spot along the Hillsborough River where Tom Brady famously tossed the Lombardi Trophy to Cameron Brate on another boat. We’re here to give these places the recognition they deserve—literally putting them on the map.

How to Submit Your Historic Spot

Help us showcase the overlooked sites that have made a mark on our city’s history. Submit your favorite unofficial historic location for a chance to feature it on our historical marker map and in our upcoming newsletter. This is your chance to shine a spotlight on a meaningful spot that has added to the city’s unique character.

Guidelines + Timeline

Submit your historic place by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 for a chance to be featured. We’ll choose our favorites, announce them in the newsletter, and then open up voting to readers to pick their top spot. Finalists will go head-to-head, and a winner will be crowned later in December. While we can’t guarantee an official historical marker, we’ll honor it as one of our community’s beloved spots.

Curious about officially recognized markers? Head over to the Historical Marker Database to explore the city’s marked historical sites.
