Summer Classics Movie Series at Tampa Theatre: Featuring The Wizard of Oz and The Godfather II
The Tampa Theatre (711 N Franklin St) is my favorite place in the city. It’s also a prime location during the hot summer months.
This time of year, Tampa’s nearly 100-year-old movie palace hosts its Summer Classics Film Series. This year’s esteemed collection features titles included in the National Film Registry.
“culturally, historically or aesthetically significant films”.
Films will be screened at 3pm on Sundays beginning June 2, and tickets are $10. You can reserve tickets directly on the theatre’s website.
- June 2: Thelma & Louise
- June 9: Invasion of the Body Snatchers
- June 16: Notorious
- June 23: Sunset Boulevard
- June 30: The Godfather Part II
- July 7: Apollo 13
- July 14: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
- July 21: The Wizard of Oz
- July 28: Do The Right Thing
- August 4: The Princess Bride
- August 11: Chinatown
- August 18: Casablanca
- August 25: The Silent Clowns
You can learn more about upcoming events at the historic Theatre on its web calendar. One of the venue’s best events is the Balcony to Backstage Tour. Visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at this movie palace, and learn a bit about its storied history.
