Tampa’s Red Bull Flugtag Teams Announced and We’re Joining the Action!

Tampa Bay is gearing up for an exhilarating day of creativity, engineering, and soaring fun as 34 teams have been selected for the highly anticipated Red Bull Flugtag Tampa 2024. This will be the first Flugtag in Tampa since 2011, and excitement is in the air as the top teams were revealed during an energetic event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa. These teams will get the chance to showcase their skills and wacky inventions on November 9 at the Tampa Convention Center.

Local Favorites Join the Fun

Among the notable competitors, two beloved local brands, That’s So Tampa and I Love the Burg, are teaming up under the alliterative name “The Benoist Brawlers.” Their flying machine, dubbed “The Jannus Jumper,” will be engineered by the talented minds of Team Anomaly. Teams from Across Tampa Bay

With over 200 applications pouring in from across the country, the selection process was fierce. However, nearly all of the final 34 teams represent Tampa and surrounding areas, making this event a true local spectacle. Schools like the University of South Florida, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Florida Atlantic University have multiple student teams among the contenders. Expect a variety of flying machines to take off from the 27-foot platform, making for an unforgettable day of excitement.

Record Attendance Expected

Rob Higgins, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, sharing that the community’s passion for Red Bull Flugtag is palpable. “With more than 200 teams applying, it’s clear how much our community loves this event,” said Higgins. “Congratulations to all the selected teams. We can’t wait to see your aircraft take flight.”

Nearly 80,000 attendees are expected to flood Tampa’s waterfront to watch the fun, making it one of the city’s most popular events of the year.

Familiar Faces and Star Teams

Among the competitors are some familiar faces, including the Fantastic Flying Legends of Wrestling, two-time Flugtag Tampa champions, and YouTube sensation JoogSquad. Fans will also recognize entries like the Tampa Bay Rays and “Put a Wing on It,” a team featuring NFL stars Chris Long and Beau Allen. These teams, along with college students, local businesses, and groups of friends, are drawing inspiration from various themes ranging from wrestling icons to college mascots.

Judging Criteria and More

Teams won’t just be judged on how far their flying machines soar; they’ll also be scored on their craft design and the creativity of their pre-flight skit.
